The Graphics Design Academy provides classroom and laboratory experiences in the new and emerging technology for all aspects of commercial art in addition to meeting requirements for the state course of study for visual arts.
Advertising Design Technology instruction uses a discipline based arts education approach, through the study of art production, art criticism, art history, and aesthetics.
Students prepare for further education or entry-level employment in careers such as layout artists, graphics designers, and illustrators. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, elements and principles of design, materials, and production in all media utilized in the field of visual communication. Students explore modern technology advances as well as traditional media. Particular emphasis is given to the use of decision-making and problem-solving techniques in applying science, mathematics, communication, and social studies concepts to solve technological problems.
Students demonstrate leadership, citizenship, work ethics, cooperative attitudes, patriotism, and social skills though participation in student organizations. Instructions and training in the areas of care, maintenance, and use of tools and equipment, and all applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations is provided.
